Service notes
Being the standard issue rifle of the Confederacy, hundreds of thousands of these rifles were smuggled past the Union blockade to aid the confederates. Chambered in .58 and changeable to a .577 caliber Minié ball. Estimates of rifle purchases are around 500,000 by the Union, with unknown numbers bought by the Confederacy. The M1853 sports a 55in barrel length and weighed 9lbs.
