Terms of Service

These terms are the agreement between you and WoRTool for use of wortool.com, the WoRTool Discord bot, and everything else we run under that name. They cover what you may do here, what you keep ownership of, and the limits of what we promise. Read them before you create an account.

1The agreement

WoRTool is a free planning and community tool for the game War of Rights, operated by an individual (referred to here as "we", "us", and "our"). The service includes the wortool.com website, the WoRTool Discord bot, the WoRSketch battle planner, and any related pages or APIs we publish.

By creating an account, signing in, or otherwise using the service, you agree to these terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service.

WoRTool is an unofficial, fan-made project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Campfire Games, the developer of War of Rights, or by Valve Corporation or Discord Inc. War of Rights and all related names, marks, artwork, and game data are the property of their respective owners and appear here for reference and community use only.

2Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to hold an account. If you are in the European Union, the European Economic Area, or the United Kingdom, you must be at least 16. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may only use the service with the involvement of a parent or guardian who accepts these terms on your behalf.

You may not use the service if we have previously terminated your account, or if you are barred from doing so under applicable law.

3Your account

You can register with an email address and password, or sign in through Discord or Steam. Whichever route you take, the account is yours alone and you are responsible for what happens under it.

  • Give an accurate email address and keep it current. It is how we verify the account, send password resets, and reach you about the service.
  • Keep your password, passkeys, authenticator app, and recovery codes to yourself. Do not share the account or let anyone else sign in as you.
  • One person, one account. Do not register accounts in bulk, by automated means, or to evade a suspension.
  • Do not impersonate another person, another community, or a WoRTool administrator, and do not pick a username designed to create that impression.
  • Tell us at legal@wortool.com if you believe your account has been accessed without your permission.

You can close your account at any time by contacting us. What happens to your data when you do is described in the Privacy Policy.

4Acceptable use

WoRTool exists so War of Rights communities can plan battles and run their units. Use it for that. Specifically, you agree not to:

  • Post content that is unlawful, harassing, hateful, threatening, defamatory, sexually explicit, or that promotes violence against or degrades any person or group.
  • Post another person's private information, including real names, addresses, workplaces, phone numbers, or IP addresses, without their clear permission.
  • Upload malware, or content you do not have the rights to share.
  • Scrape, crawl, or bulk-download the site, or use automated tools against it, except through an interface we have published for that purpose.
  • Probe, scan, or test the security of the service, circumvent rate limits or access controls, or attempt to reach data or accounts that are not yours.
  • Interfere with the service or the infrastructure it runs on, including by flooding it with requests.
  • Resell, sublicense, or commercially exploit the service or the data in it without our written permission.
  • Use the service to break any law, or to break the terms of Discord, Steam, or War of Rights itself.

Historical accuracy is the point of a Civil War game, and the catalog carries the names, flags, and unit designations of both sides of that conflict. That is context, not endorsement. Using the service to advocate for the ideology of the Confederacy, to celebrate slavery, or to promote any racist or extremist cause is a breach of these terms.

If you find a security vulnerability, report it to legal@wortool.com rather than exploiting it or disclosing it publicly. We will not pursue action against good-faith research that respects the privacy of other users and does not degrade the service.

5Your content

"Your content" means anything you put into the service: posts and comments, images and video you upload, community profiles and banners, event descriptions, rosters, WoRSketch boards and the drawings on them, catalog contributions, and messages you send through the Discord bot.

You keep ownership of your content. We claim no ownership over it.

So that we can actually run the service, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, resize, transcode, and display your content, and to distribute it to the people you have chosen to share it with. That licence exists only to operate, maintain, back up, and improve the service, and it ends when you delete the content or close your account, except for copies already made in backups and for content others have legitimately reshared inside the service.

You confirm that you have the rights to everything you post, and that posting it does not breach anyone else's copyright, trademark, privacy, or other rights.

Catalog contributions

When you submit a correction, resource, or image to the shared game catalog (maps, units, weapons) and we accept it, that contribution becomes part of a reference resource the whole community relies on. You grant us a perpetual, irrevocable licence to keep it in the catalog, edit it, and display it, with attribution to your account where the interface provides for it. This is limited to accepted catalog contributions; it does not apply to your posts, boards, or community content.

Feedback

If you send us ideas or suggestions about the service, we may use them freely and without obligation to you.

6Communities

A community on WoRTool is a player-run unit with its own profile, roster, ranks, schedule, and staff. Communities are run by their own members, not by us.

  • A community's owners and staff are responsible for its content, its roster, and the conduct of its members within it.
  • Joining a community makes your membership, rank, and activity in it visible to that community's staff and, depending on its settings, to other visitors.
  • Community staff can remove members, edit the roster, and delete content posted in the community. If you leave or are removed, content you posted in that community may remain.
  • We may remove a community, transfer its ownership, or reclaim an abandoned community name where its staff are unreachable or these terms are being breached.

Disputes between members of a community, or between communities, are for those communities to settle. We step in only where these terms are being breached.

7The Discord bot and linked accounts

You can link a Discord account or a Steam account to your WoRTool account, and a community can invite the WoRTool bot to its Discord server. Both are optional.

Inviting the bot means the person doing so has authority to act for that Discord server, and authorises the bot to read the server's channels and roles and, where granted the permission, to assign roles and post messages on the community's behalf. Changes made through Discord and changes made on the website are two views of the same records, so an action taken in one place takes effect in the other.

Discord and Steam are separate services with their own terms and privacy policies. We do not control them, and their availability is not something we can promise. You can unlink either provider from your account settings, provided you keep a way to sign in.

8Our content and the game catalog

The WoRTool name, design, layout, code, and original written material are ours or our licensors', and are protected by copyright. These terms give you permission to use the service, not to copy it.

Game data in the catalog, including map names, campaign structure, unit designations, weapon statistics, and in-game imagery, describes War of Rights and remains the property of Campfire Games. It is presented here for the community's reference under fair use, and we make no claim of ownership over it. If you are a rights holder and object to something we host, write to legal@wortool.com and we will remove it promptly.

9Moderation, suspension, and termination

We may remove content, suspend an account, or close an account where we reasonably believe these terms have been breached, where the law requires it, or where doing so is necessary to protect the service or its users.

Where it is practical and lawful to do so, we will tell you why, and you can appeal by writing to legal@wortool.com. Serious cases, such as content that is illegal or that puts other users at risk, may be acted on immediately and without notice.

You may stop using the service at any time. Sections that by their nature should outlast the agreement, including your content licence for accepted catalog contributions, the disclaimers, the limitation of liability, and the governing law clause, survive the closing of your account.

10Availability and changes to the service

WoRTool is provided free of charge and is developed actively. We may add, change, or remove features, and we may take the service offline for maintenance or for good. We do not promise any level of uptime, and we do not guarantee that data you store here will always be available or recoverable.

Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose. Where we plan to discontinue the service entirely, we will give reasonable notice so that you can export what matters to you.

11Disclaimers

The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including the implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, and non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the service will be uninterrupted, secure, or error-free, that defects will be corrected, or that the game data in the catalog is accurate, complete, or current. The catalog is community maintained and is not an authoritative source for War of Rights.

We are not responsible for content posted by other users or communities, or for anything that happens between users of the service.

12Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data, goodwill, or content, arising out of or connected with your use of the service, whether the claim is in contract, tort, or any other theory, and even if we have been advised that such damages are possible.

Our total liability to you for all claims relating to the service is limited to one hundred United States dollars (USD 100). The service is free, and that limit reflects it.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain damages. Where that is the case, the exclusions and limits above apply only as far as the law allows, and nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.

13Indemnity

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claim, demand, loss, or expense, including reasonable legal fees, brought by a third party and arising out of your content, your use of the service, or your breach of these terms or of any law or third-party right. We will notify you of any such claim and will not settle it without your consent, which you will not unreasonably withhold.

14Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the service changes or as the law requires. When a change is material, we will give notice on the site, and by email where we hold a verified address for you, before it takes effect. The effective date at the top of this page always reflects the current version. Continuing to use the service after a change takes effect means you accept the updated terms; if you do not, close your account.

15Governing law and disputes

These terms are governed by the laws of the United States, without regard to its conflict of law rules. Any dispute that cannot be resolved between us will be brought in the courts of that jurisdiction, and you and we each consent to their jurisdiction.

Nothing here deprives you of the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of the country where you live, or of the right to bring a claim in your local courts where the law gives you that right.

Before starting formal proceedings, please write to legal@wortool.com. Most problems can be settled that way.

16General

  • These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the service.
  • If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest stays in force and the unenforceable part is narrowed only as far as needed.
  • Our not enforcing a provision on one occasion is not a waiver of it.
  • You may not transfer your rights under these terms. We may transfer ours in connection with a transfer of the service, on notice to you.
  • We are not liable for failures caused by events outside our reasonable control, including outages at Discord, Steam, or our hosting or email providers.
